1.Created in 1986, Acura was the first Japanese luxury car brand to hit the market.

2. The origin of the Acura name is derived from Latin — acu — defined as “done with precision” or “mechanically precise.” Originally, Honda pronounced the marque as “a-coor-uh,” but customers preferred “Ah-cure-uh” so the new name stuck.

3. Acura and Marvel Entertainment have had a professional partnership since 2010. In fact, Acura models actually appear in movies like Thor, Captain America and The Avengers.

4. The Acura logo, introduced in 1990 for the 1991 model year, is a stylized “A” (for Acura) that can also be interpreted as a skewed “H” (for Honda). The logo that was originally authorized without approval by Soichiro Honda did not contain the small horizontal bar joining the two vertical pillars—thus, it did not form the letter “H”.

5. The Acura NSX, not the 2015 Ford F-150, was the first vehicle produced with an all-aluminum body.

6. Acura’s 2014 global sales totaled 195,000 vehicles, down from a record 232,000 in 2005. North America accounted for 97 percent of the 2014 volume, with China pitching in 4,464 vehicles and another 1,173 coming from Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.

7. Honda’s Acura MDX was given the title of Best Value for large crossover vehicles by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance in 2014. This award means that the Honda Acura MDX doesn’t depreciate or degrade nearly as fast as other cars, which often lose half their value in the first two years of ownership.

8. Only one Acura model is even sold in Japan: the RLX, badged as the Honda Legend. The U.S.-made second generation NSX sports car eventually will be sold in Japan, also with a Honda badge.

9. Designed in Torrance, engineered in Ohio (TL MDX) while the RL and RDX are engineered in Japan, these cars are manufactured using innovative Honda tech to be made around the world.
